Chosen Girl Does McQueen

While browsing through the ChosenGirl dresses, I found one that is an homage to the late, great designer, Alexander McQueen. He pushed limits that where once thought to be set in stone and captivated people with some of the most daring runway shows in history. But, most importantly, he was able to show people that fashion is not about fitting into clothing, but making clothing fit your personality. McQueen was the self-proclaimed “pink sheep” in both his family and the fashion industry. The youngest of six to a Taxicab driver and a teacher, he was initially ostracized in the elitist fashion business because of his brash manner and upbringing. But, seemingly unphased by his lack of acceptance, McQueen stuck to his love of exciting rule-breaking fashion. He put on runway shows where models walked with live wolves, Kate Moss was a hologram, and robotic arms spray-painted the outfits as the models walked down the runway. And before you could say, “Wait, live wolves?” the biggest names in fashion were fighting to fill his front row. Now, he is famed for being both Lady Gaga’s costume designer and the house that dressed Catherine Middleton for her wedding day. However you define McQueen, you can never consider him a conformist. This month the Metropolitan Museum of Art is celebrating him as one of the greatest artists of our generation because just like all of us, McQueen was chosen to be an individual and did so in the most eccentric way possible. Get motivated by this great designer and don’t be afraid to stand out! What better way to do this than with a McQueen inspired dress like this strapless computer printed dress based on his outstanding final show named “Plato’s Atlantis” after the imaginary lost world that was the start of civilization in some mythology, but was mostly remembered for the skyscraping “armadillo shoes.” So slip on this McQueen sheath and remember the only thing that should hold you back in fashion is your ability to walk in the shoes! Anyways, who said being the “pink sheep” (or in this case multi-colored and screen-printed sheep) was a bad thing?
